Sustainable Columbus Neighborhood

From June-October, 2009, a survey was conducted in the neighborhood surrounding Columbus Elementary School (bordered by Wisconsin Avenue to the north, Drew Street to the east Packard/train tracks to the south, and Richmond St. to the west) to learn how residents feel about their neighborhood.

These survey results provide a basis for actions in the neighborhood to improve livability and sustainability.  The results were presented and discussed, along with a list of potential project ideas, at a community meeting of the Appleton Neighborhood Voice, the established residents' group, in November 2009

In 2010, Sustainable Fox Valley is partnering with the Appleton Neighborhood Voice to launch the first project.  Reviving the Ravine is a project to build community in the neighborhood and reclaim Arbutus Park for positive neighborhood activity.  Through the summer, neighbors are organizing potluck picnics and community gardening to transform the park into an urban oasis of native wildflowers.  Learn More.
